Knitted fabric is one of the most volume-intensive materials in textile manufacturing — and storing thousands of rolls without damage, without confusion, and without delay is a challenge that manual systems simply cannot meet at scale. This large-scale Coimbatore installation of Sieger's Fabric Roll ASRS with Stacker Crane and Fork was purpose-built to solve exactly that — bringing full automation to one of the largest knitted fabric storage operations in the region.

Installed within a Pre-Engineered Building (PEB), this is a 5-system ASRS deployment — five stacker cranes operating simultaneously across five independent aisles, each rising to an impressive height of 18 meters. At this scale, Sieger's fork type stacker cranes deliver the kind of throughput that no single-system or manual operation could match — storing and retrieving fabric rolls concurrently across all five aisles without a single bottleneck.

The system stores a total of 3,916 knitted fabric rolls, each weighing up to 500 kg. At 18 meters high, the vertical storage density achieved here is exceptional — thousands of rolls stacked in a fraction of the floor space that conventional ground-level racking would demand. Every roll is assigned a precise storage location by the ASRS software, retrievable on demand within seconds — protecting fabric quality and eliminating the time wasted searching through manually managed roll inventories.

For knitted fabric manufacturers, roll damage during storage is a significant hidden cost. Pressure marks, moisture exposure, and mishandling add up to substantial fabric waste over time. Sieger's ASRS eliminates every one of these risks — each roll is stored individually, handled only by the automated fork mechanism, and retrieved without any human contact in the storage aisle. The result is near-zero fabric damage and a dramatic reduction in inventory write-offs.

The conveying system running across all five ASRS units manages high-throughput roll transfer between storage aisles and production feeding points — keeping fabric moving to the knitting machines continuously, without manual handling delays or production line stoppages.

A 5-system, 18-meter deployment of this scale is a clear statement of intent — and a benchmark for what automated fabric storage looks like at its most powerful. This project exemplifies Sieger's position as the leading ASRS provider for the knitted textile industry across India — delivering storage systems that protect fabric, maximise space, and keep production running at full speed, every day.
